Stonehenge,Salisbury & Cotswold villages

This commendation letter is written to express our gratitude and thankfulness to Lion Tours and especially to Paul our tour guide. Our 8-hour tour included Stonehenge, the cities of Salisbury and Lacock and the Cotswold villages. From the beginning of our tour through its very end - Paul's warm, friendly and welcoming attitude was outstanding! His people skills and impressive knowledge throughout our tour demonstrated the very best examples of a great tour guide focused on customer service. It was a wonderful experience! Additionally, Paul's empathic and entertaining communication skills brought the local culture and historical significance to life. Paul and Lion Tours have our highest recommendation and are of great value. With a confident and happy smile - we will look forward to our soon return to Bath Spa and another Lion Tours with Paul. Thank you!

Stonehenge Special Access Tour

This is a very very be-lated review of our amazing tour of the Costwolds with Jonathan, but it goes to show that even 5 months later I am still thinking of that tour, the friendly tourists that we were with, and our guide Jonathan. My husband and I planned our own trip, following our Rick Steves guidebook. On our last evening in Bath, I was researching which train to hop on to make it to our next B&B in the Costwolds and read in our guidebook that some of the tours can drop us off near our B&B in the Costwolds for a small extra fee. I thought that was a brilliant suggestion, we save on train costs and get to sight-see on our way there. I contacted Lion Tours, per my Rick Steves Guidebook, and was able to book a tour in bed at 11:30p for the very next morning, a few minutes walk from our B&B in Bath. In the morning, I got text confirmation, found our tour group, hopped on (with our luggage) and started our amazing adventure to the Costwolds with Jonathan. What an experience... it makes me smile just to think back to it all. So first we hopped on a very comfortable van/mini-bus, with large windows and curtains. Everyone on the bus was really friendly and sociable, we really had a jolly time with them. Jonathan was at the head of the bus, driving and giving narration as to what we were seeing. He had a microphone, so it was easy to hear him along our ride. Having a tour guide, makes the Cotswolds so much more interesting. We learned the ins and outs of those walls that were stacked from flat stones, and how difficult it is. We learned so much about those beautiful thatched roofs. We learned about the town cross and how they used to be centers of commerce, how you can tell a town by it's wealth by judging the size and grandeur of its cross. Jonathan took us on a walking tour through many parts of the Costwolds, gave us a lot of knowledge but also little tips/advice. In some areas, he would drop us off at a starting point and pick us up at an agreed upon location, so we wouldn't have to doubleback to the bus. For those of us who had difficulty walking, he would go out of his way to drive them to a midpoint where they could walk a shorter distance, so at least they would see a bit of the scenery, and meet at our same location. I felt that he was very personable, friendly, organized, relaxed and thoughtful for each of us. I think we had about 12-14 people in our group, it was a really nice small group and we really got to chat and know each other. My husband just walked by as I am writing this review, and he wants me to add that this was his favorite part of our EU travels this summer (over Paris, over Bath, over Oxford, over London). Near the latter half of our tour, we went for a nice lunch at a really quaint cottage restaurant (oh we finally understood where the term "cottage industry" originated from) with little shops, by the lakeside and it was so nice for all of us to sit down, have a nice long chat over our English teas. After lunch was the saddest part, where our group dropped us off at our B&B and we said goodbye to everyone as they continued back to Bath. So that is our recommendation of Lion Tours and our guide Jonathan. We really had a great time and this was truly the highlight of our trip.

We just wanted to let you know we had a really great tour today which was very much due to Mark’s witty commentary and excellent driving.

Stonehenge tour with Lacock National Trust village

Absolutely brilliant tour with Paul, who was friendly and informative. It was super being driven through the beautiful countryside and being able to take in the views without worrying about the driving. Stonehenge itself was amazing. It was great to be able to get closer to the stones - last time I was there the stones were a distant vision on the horizon. The whole trip was enlivened by Paul's dry humour and it was all tremendous fun. The half day timing was also really convenient. Highly recommended.

King Arthur’s Realm

Now that the dust has settled after our Bristol vacation earlier this month, I write to thank you and, especially, Mark our guide, for the excellent "King Arthur" tour for the Crane party of seven on 3 July. Mark was an expert driver and raconteur, always good humored and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this tour. Thank you for a great day!

Private Tour

A thousand thanks for your genuine kindnesses as our gentle leader! You divested yourself of a "tour guide" persona and became an informed friend to your little group of Yanks. Every single one of us can only say the highest praise for your gift of being there when we needed you, and your gift of stepping back when you thought you should.
