What sort of people come on the tour?
All ages and nationalities, mainly people who prefer organising their own itinerary and travelling independently.
My English isn't very good, would I enjoy the tour?
These tours are about seeing amazing places and exploring them whatever your language. We have plenty of illustrated written notes in the bus on the Stonehenge tour which may be of help. At Stonehenge you can get personal audio commentaries in various languages.
Are these tours suitable for children?
We take children of any age on our tours and can provide child seats and booster seats if requested when booking. We cannot guarantee availability or suitability.
I'm not very mobile, is there a lot of walking?
Our tours are extremely flexible, you can do as much or as little as you want. We use small minicoaches so that we can take you as close as possible to the sites. If you have serious mobility problems we can arrange to collect you from wherever you may be staying in Bath . We have some storage space in the minicoach so we can accommodate foldaway wheelchairs.
Are there other ways I can see these places?
Why don't I do this from London ?
If you do you'll miss out on the joy of travelling to Bath by train. It's a quick and straightforward journey and you'll see some lovely countryside. Bath is too beautiful to miss and we recommend staying for at least one night in one of the independent guesthouses in and around the city (www.stayinbath.org). If you do our tour from Bath you'll find it's less than half the price of doing a similar tour from London.
Is it possible to join your tours from somewhere else?
On our Cotswold tour it is possible to collect guests from Castle Combe, Kemble rail station,Tetbury and Cirencester.
On our Stonehenge tours it may be possible to collect you from Stonehenge and drop you off in Bath if you are coming from Salisbury.
Can I see these places by public transport?
It would be difficult to get to all the places we go to by public transport. Timetables are complicated and rural bus services are infrequent. It is possible, if expensive, to hire a car but you would miss out on the informative and fun commentary from our guides. By travelling with us you can relax, meet fellow travellers, save money and have access to all the knowledge of our guides.
About the tours
Can you pick us up from our hotel?
We do not usually collect from individual guesthouses and hotels but can sometimes do this for a price of £10. Our meeting point is very central and within easy walking distance of many places to stay. If you have mobility problems please tell us and we can make special arrangements to help.
I want to do your tour but I also want to see the Roman Baths, can I do both?
If your schedule is busy you may find that our half day tours suit you better. The Roman Baths stay open later in the summer which would allow you to join one of our full day tours (www.romanbaths.co.uk)
Will I have time for shopping?
If you want to shop there are places on the tour. Our guides know where to find most things and they will be happy to point you in the right direction. We do not take any commission from any outlets.
What about lunch?
There are a variety of possibilities to suit all requirements. You may bring a packed lunch if that is preferable. We request that you do not consume food on the bus, there are plenty of beautiful places to sit and eat. On our combination Stonehenge and Cotswold Villages tour we can drop you for food at The Bell (www.the bellatlacock.co.uk) from where it is a pleasant 15 minute stroll into Lacock. You can also visit Lacock Abbey where there is a nearby National Trust tea room. King John's hunting Lodge is another great option. On the full day Cotswold tour we stop at either Lower Slaughter or Malmesbury . You can get sandwiches, main meals and cream teas here and the service is reasonably prompt. On our King Arthur tour we usually make glastonbury our lunch stop. We usually call ahead to reserve tables and do not take commission at any outlets and the cost of lunch is not included in the price of the tour.
Do we just drive past the sites or will we have time to get out and explore?
There are plenty of opportunities to explore on your own and we give you enough time at each major site to enjoy the location. The time spent off and on the bus is roughly equal on all tours. The driver will let you know how much time you have at each place.
What should I bring with me on the tour?
Apart from a camera and payment we suggest wearing comfortable walking shoes and bringing wet weather clothing. If the weather is hot it's good to carry a bottle of water. In the winter there can be a chilly wind at Stonehenge so hats and scarves can be useful too.
Can we bring luggage or a buggy/stroller?
This is possible but space is limited so please let us know your requirements when you book.
Will I see crop circles?
Sometimes we see crop circles, mainly on our tours which visit Stonehenge. We can't guarantee this but they are usually predominant around July and August.
Do your tours operate all year round?
We run tours throughout the year (excluding 25th December).
