Winter Solstice tour

Join the throng of winter celebrations and soak up the atmosphere of Stonehenge with special access to the inner circle of the stones.

Celebrate the magic of the winter solstice and witness the rising sun at the heart of Stonehenge, just as our ancestors have over thousands of years.

Stonehenge is a perfect marker of both the summer and winter solstices, aligned to exactly pinpoint this turning point in the sun's journey. Winter Solstice was the most important time of the year for our ancestors, the shortest day and longest night of the year and the beginning of the lengthening of days. This is a time of merriment as we welcome back the sun and a brighter time of the year.  New archaeological evidence shows that the mid-winter Solstice gatherings at Stonehenge were a time for feasting on an unprecedented scale, bringing the ancient people of Britain together, arriving with their animals from all corners of the country.
